Do You Have Health Insurance Coverage for 2015?
If you have not already enrolled in a health care plan for 2015, there is no better time than now. Although the deadline to sign up for 2015 health insurance is not until February 15, 2015, the sooner you sign up for a policy, the sooner you will have coverage.
If you signed up for health insurance for 2014 with the Marketplace, your policy will be automatically renewed. However, it is still important to look at the different coverage options to ensure that you have the right amount of coverage for the upcoming year. You may be able to save money if you switch to another policy since your existing plan may have changed for 2015.
When you sign up for a health insurance policy it will determine when your coverage starts. If you sign up between the 1st and the 15th day of the month, your health coverage will start on the first day of the following month. If you sign up for coverage between the 16th and last day of the month, your policy will go into effect on the first day of the second following month, so if you sign up any day this month, your coverage will start on February 1st.
If you do not sign up for health insurance during the open enrollment period, you will face heavier fines than in 2014. The fine will be either 2 percent of your total household income for the year or $325 per adult in your household and $162.50 per child, whichever amount is higher.
