How to Balance Tech and Life

Find tech-life balance with the help of these tips.

Most of us are glued to our smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and computers for the majority of the day. In a world where we’re more connected than ever before, it is often necessary to disconnect to recharge our own batteries. Technology has a way of allowing us to stay connected with everyone and make day-to-day life easy, but it can also lead us to miss out on being in the present for moments that matter. To improve your tech-life balance, here are a few tips.

Limit your notifications. If you don’t see all your messages and social media notifications come through on your phone, you’re less likely to open the apps and start responding. Limit your push notifications so that you take a step back from being ever-present on your phone. In turn, this will cut back on your social media usage.

Take advantage of Do Not Disturb. Whether you want to concentrate on the task at hand or just need a little break from your phone, turn on Do Not Disturb. If you’re expecting an important call, you can set expectations on your phone so that you don’t miss out.

Power down before bed. To improve your sleep quality and mental health, try turning your phone off at least half an hour before bedtime and leaving it out of the room.

Step away from your phone. Challenge yourself to put your phone away during certain times of the day – at bedtime and while you’re eating are great places to start. This allows you to focus on the moment, other people, and your thoughts.
